“When you’re in a dark place, you sometimes tend to think you’ve been buried. Perhaps you’ve been planted. Bloom.”
– Christine Caine
Welcome To Your Safe Space
In Bloom Counselling offers counselling services to children, youth, families and couples in the Ottawa area.
As a mom of four young children, I know how chaotic, busy and overwhelming life can get. When things at home aren’t going well, it can feel like nothing in other areas of your life are working. My goal is to help you create a strong family unit so that you can take on anything life throws at you.
I understand how overwhelming and stressful it can be to reach out to a stranger for help and guidance, but when we are facing challenges seeking support is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family. My goal is to create a comfortable, non-judgemental, and safe space where you can openly and honestly discuss your challenges.
“When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.”
– Fred Rogers
children & Youth counselling
Through various techniques, such as games, art, and play, I will work with your child to help them explore their feelings, worries
Additionally, I work with children who have been abused or neglected, have witnessed domestic violence etc., and who are experiencing symptoms related to their trauma history.
I provide support to children and youth who may be struggling with major life changes such as the birth of a sibling, parents divorcing, a relocation/move, or the death of a loved one. I also work with children who may be having difficulty with school, or experiencing anxiety and stress.
Building a strong rapport with your child is essential for therapy success. Therefore, the first few sessions with your child will focus on building a relationship of trust so that they feel comfortable and safe with me. Parents are included in the interventions so that you can continue to support and work with your child at home.
“When love doesn’t work, we hurt.”
– Dr. Sue Johnson
Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is a well-researched, scientifically proven structured approach to couples’ therapy with a 75% success rate.
Through EFT, I will work with you and your partner to help you identify and change the cycle of negativity hindering your relationship. This negative cycle is the enemy – not you or your partner. You and your partner are the experts in your relationship, and we will work together to help you both overcome any negative cycle and move forward.
“Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.”
– Michael J. Fox
In addition to working with couples, I also use emotionally focused family therapy (EFFT) to work with families. EFFT is designed to transform negative interaction patterns by restructuring attachment bonds and increasing parental accessibility and responsiveness to children.
I will work with you and your family to de-escalate family distress. I will work in a way that provides a safe environment so that every family member has the opportunity to be heard.
